A Regency white painted and parcel gilt open arm chair in the style of George Smith, with lion mask terminals to arms, acanthus and laurel leaf decoration, the turned front legs of fluted circular tapering form, the back legs splayed, the scrolling floral upholstery in black velvet and grey silk 91 x 63 x 73cm (35 x 25 x 28in)
Provenance: Sotheby's, Selected English and Continental Furniture, 29 April 2003, lot 281 Other Notes: George Smith was a furniture designer, who from 1806, produced plates for his designs for household furniture and interior decoration 1808. His designs were in the Chinese, Egyptian, Gothic and Greek styles.
