Description

A rare late 18th or early 19th century North African camel saddle, formed of iron-clad wood, with two basal rails and three arched supports each retained by punched brass brackets, the principal surfaces decorated with shaped brass and iron plaques 133cm (52in)
Saddles of similar form were used by Napoleon's Dromadaire (camel) regiment in the Egyptian campaign of 1798. Another example is preserved in the Army Museum, Paris.
