About this lot

Description

A pair of fine 19th century hinged bangles with enamel and seed pearls, each designed as twin parallel bars all around the wrist held by a continuous flowing wreath of seed pearl set leaves and flowers, spaced by green enamelled heart-shaped leaves; hidden clasps, multiple cartouches stamped '18k' and distinctive maker's cartouches in the form of a butterfly, not traced, possibly American; presented in contemporary 19th century fitted case The bangles are in extremely good, fresh and bright condition for age - barely worn.  The enamel is vivid and clear, with no eye-visible losses; just two or three small shallow edge chips only visible with a loupe.  There are five seed pearls lacking -  but 251 in place.  The hinges and clasps are in good working order, and there are integral loops for safety chains should they be desired.  The gold is bright and clean.  The box is in good order and correct for period, but I suspect that the maker was a top London, Continental or American house; and the butterfly signature is very distinctive.  These are superb quality.
