A Japanese Imari large dish, Edo Period, 18th century,

with deep well and narrow border, painted with two pairs of shi-shi and fenhuang birds in panels around a central bamboo and peony roundel, the rim underside with three peony sprigs

Wood Hall, Hilgay, Norfolk



numerous rim cracks (4 quite severe).Stress cracks in glaze especially visible on back of rim.Two sizeable blisters (devoid of glaze) on main field toward centre. Gilding is very reasonable for its age -some wear and especially on rim. Old iron hanging wires extant.
