About this lot

Description

the rolled curb link chain terminating in two swivel catches with the midway point supporting a T-bar and a Georgian spade guinea with soldered scrolled edged pendant loop, the chain with Birmingham hallmarks for 9ct gold, 1937, length of chain 39.5cm and gross weight 56.2g

Footnote: The guinea was the major British coin of the 18th century, worth one pound and one shilling and was so called as it was made of gold from the West African country of Guinea. This example is known as a 'spade' guinea, as the reverse features a crowned shield of the Royal Arms which resembles the blade of an old style long handled spade.
