London 1785, of plain and simple oval form with bead edged base and rim, the part marked flush fitting hinged cover topped with a brown finial and with handle to match, scratched to the underside 'B.S 1784'; the simple beaded edged oval stand, raised on four ball and claw feet, and scratched to the underside to match, 17.1ozt gross (Qty: 2)

Footnote: Hester Bateman, considered as one of England's finest silversmiths, successfully ran her family business for thirty years following the death of her husband in 1760. She retired in 1790 and was succeeded in turn by her sons, daughter-in-law, grandson and great-grandson. The Bateman family silversmithing company lasted until 1843.
