A carved wood tiger head mask, Terai District of Southern Nepal, late 19th century,

of stylised form with open large jaw, with eyelets on the neck, 45.5cm high

Acquired in September 1993



Footnote:

A highly revered animal, the present lot would be ritualistically worn in veneration of the tiger during various folk festivals.



Condition report:

Eyelet damage, main jaw losses, large fracture up most of left side and losses around the base
