Footnote: Born in July 1860 at Marmorpalais (Marble Palace) near Potsdam, Princess Luise Margarete Alexandra Victoria Agnes was the daughter of Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia - a nephew of the German Emperor, Wilhelm I. In 1879, she married Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn - the seventh child and third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. After their marriage, her name was Anglicised to Louise Margaret. She died at their London residence, Clarence House, in 1917 aged just 56, and became the first member of the British Royal Family to be cremated. The Duke of Connaught survived her by almost twenty-five years. The Duchess of Connaught spent the first twenty years of her marriage accompanying her husband on his various deployments throughout the world, and so it is likely she acquired this box during her travels.
