Footnote:

Born in 1935, Samuel Buri, is best known for his pioneering role in the development of the Swiss avante-garde movement. Celebrated for his unexpected fusion of the natural world with neo-expressionist and op-art motifs, Buri’s work has been received international acclaim and, notably, has been exhibited at the Kunsthalle Basel in 1969 and the São Paulo Biennial in 1971.

Although his style has metamorphosed considerably throughout the years and his oeuvre demonstrates extraordinary versatility, a fearless use of colour and an auratic reverence to natural world has endured throughout. Experimenting with the illusory effects of shape and colour, the present lot, dating from the 1960s, is typical of Buri’s work from this period.
