Two years later, he won a place at the RA Schools, where he was taught by Walter Sickert, who took an interest in his work. Throughout his career, he produced more than 500 etchings, but struggled to make a living. In 1945, London’s Brook Street Gallery staged a one-man exhibition of his drypoints.
