Description

Four typed letters, Hoglands, Much Hadham, Herts, covering the period, October 1946-May 1947. Moore discusses Gigi's purchase of one of his sculpture's - 'How very nice to get your letter, I am delighted that you bought one of the bronze reclining figures. I am sure it will be alright at the Leicester Galleries if you pay for it after the 15th November'. Later in the letter, Moore discusses the rent of a shed at the Mall Studio - 'I saw Barbara Hepworth last week and later she also rang me about the shed...if you think Gigi, that the shed is going to be useful for you for storing things why not make some offer for it?...You will find that B. H. knows how to make a good bargain if she thinks you are soft'. In another letter, Moore discusses a statue by Barbara Hepworth and a burglary at the Mall Studios - 'I don't know anything at all about the Hepworth statue, I believe she does not now like it so perhaps she will not mind terribly what damage it may have received'. The following year, the letters detail Gigi having to sell a large drawing by Henry Moore which he says he will authenticate when it is sent to America.
