About this lot

Description

§ Frances Mabel Hollams (British, 1877-1963) Study of a chesnut thoroughbred racehorse in a landscape signed "F M Hollams" lower left oil on panel 37 x 50cm (14 x 20in)
Other Notes: David Oldrey writes: "It may amuse you to know that if one is pedantic a horse is strictly a chesnut not a chestnut. The confusion over this has misled a myriad of ignorant folk down the years to call bay horses chestnuts because they are often more or less the colour of conkers".
Oil on panel, the panel is in plane and in a good condition. There is a slight horizontal split at the upper left hand corner. The paint layer is in very good condition, it is stable and secure. The painting is unvarnished and a slight haze has developed in some of the darker paint passages. The frame is in a good condition.
