Description

§ Elisabeth Vellacott (British, 1905-2002) Sketch for "Chesil Beach", circa 1952 pencil 18 x 38cm (7 x 15in)
Other Notes: Elisabeth Vellacott made trips to the Scillies, Wales and Scotland and produced masterly studies of rock formations and mountain rivers - people, trees and flowers were also to be depicted in compositions formed from thousands of tiny pencil or chalk strokes. Jim Ede bought several such landscapes for his Kettle's Yard museum and gallery at Cambridge and it was here that the artist enjoyed a 90th birthday exhibition. The present pencil sketch is a preliminary drawing for the ink and wash painting "Chesil Beach" which now hangs in the collecton at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge. Vellacott referred to these drawings as her "inkwash drawings".
Condition is fine.
