Description

§ Christopher Bramham (British, b.1952) Two Ducks, 1998 oil on canvas 27 x 15cm (11 x 6in) Other Notes: Bramham studied at the Bradford College of Art from 1970 to 1971 and then Kingston.upon-Thames Art School from 1971 to 1973. He spent several years teaching part-time until eventually moving to Richmond, Surrey. In 1982 he met Lucian Freud who became both a friend and influence, aiding Bramham to grow his reputation in the public and consequently, he was included in the Young Contemporaries Exhibition at Agnew's in 1986. Bramham held his first one-man exhibition at the Fine Art Society in 1988 followed by several exhibitions at the Marlborough Gallery. In 2007 he exhibited with Lucien Freud at the Browse and Darby Gallery. Throughout the 1990s his work consisted almost exclusively of Suburban London Landscapes out of his window. These works, as well as his later Cornwall landscapes, have been linked with the work of Constable as he presents everyday subjects in a way that hides their mundanity. In 1999 he left London to settle in Cornwall where his work adapted to more rural scenes as he continued to paint his surroundings. Oil on paper which has been attached to board. The paper has undulations around the edges, the paint layer us in a good condition overall. There is some wear to the frame and the glazing is dusty.
