Description

F. Kafka III signed with initials and dated '64' (lower right) pen and ink, gouache and collage 41 x 58.5cm

Footnote: Adolf Hoffmeister was many things: an artist, translator, playwright, diplomat, lawyer, poet, novelist and staunch anti-fascist. His magazine, Simplicus , a name derived from the German satirical magazine Simplicissimus , was established in the 1930s and later banned by the Nazi regime. The present work, which features several portraits of fellow Czech and socialist, Franz Kafka, is one of a series of works Hoffmeister created, between 1963 and 1973, depicting the author.
