Fordham is a large village between Newmarket and Soham. People searching for property here get a well-served fen-edge community with its own shops, school and church, rather than a small hamlet. It sits on the little River Snail about four miles north of Newmarket, within easy reach of Soham, Burwell and Mildenhall, which makes it popular with families and commuters wanting space and choice. Homes run from period and brick houses in the older centre, to bungalows and newer family developments on the edges.
Soham is the nearest town just to the north, with its reopened station, and Burwell offers a similar large-village feel towards Cambridge. For more to choose from, Newmarket to the south and Ely to the north-west are the two market towns close by, with Cambridge a little beyond.
Why Cheffins?
Founded in 1825, Cheffins is among the longest-established estate agents, auctioneers and chartered surveyors in the region, with a particularly strong rural and agricultural arm alongside its residential sales and property auctions. Fordham is covered from the firm's Newmarket and Ely offices, the two towns on either side, whose teams know the fen-edge villages and the kind of land and character property that comes up around them. For a village with this much variety, that breadth across town and country gives buyers a clearer read.
