Starting on 1st September and ending on 7th September, over 30 pieces of limited-edition rugby kit will be available to bid on via the Cheffins website, with all proceeds being passed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

During the first coronavirus lockdown in 2020, Shelford Rugby Club held a kit design competition to try and keep local youngsters engaged with the Club. The entries were voted on by the public and the winning design has since been realised and will be worn on the Club’s first match on Saturday 4th September 2021. The kit will only be worn on this first day and then will be auctioned off to raise money for NHS charities and will be specifically donated to Addenbrooke’s IDA unit, to improve staff facilities.

Mikael Biard, Honorary Secretary at Shelford Rugby Club comments: “We decided that we wanted to support the staff involved in the NHS IDA (Intermediate Dependency Area) ward at Addenbrookes in particular as we wanted to be able to thank the staff at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for all of their hard work throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. We particularly wanted to help where we could with the focus on the wellbeing of staff working on the ward and all monies raised will be going to support the upgrading and refurbishment of staff areas, providing places where they can go to rest, regroup, take in some food and socialise with colleagues.”

Members of the public will be welcomed to the Shelford Rugby Club Community Day on 4th September to watch the teams play in the limited-edition kit. The Club is offering free entry for all on the day with an introduction to its community which includes other sports teams, scout groups and exercise classes. There will also be fun activities for families including an inflatable slide and target practice, as well as the Club’s usual food and drink offering.

Bill King, Chairman at Cheffins says: “We are pleased to be supporting Shelford Rugby Club with this fantastic initiative, and by offering use of our online bidding platform, we are able to help the Club to raise money for an important cause. We wish Shelford Rugby Club all the best with their upcoming Community Day.”
