Alison Oughton and Stephanie Richards from the Cheffins Commercial Division recently spent a day volunteering at Arthur Rank Hospice, helping to care for the beautiful gardens that provide an important and peaceful environment for patients and their families. The pair spent the day deadheading flowers, weeding, clearing away plants and branches affected by the summer heat and watering the gardens. As well as helping to keep the grounds looking their best, the day provided an opportunity to learn more about the work carried out at the Hospice.

“We were given a tour of the facilities by Julia Latif, the Corporate Partnerships Manager, who explained how Arthur Rank Hospice Care supports patients and their families, including through its wellness clinics. Patients can access a range of complimentary treatments and activities designed to provide comfort and relaxation, including head and hand massages, Reiki, art and music classes and use of the Hospice library. With the Hospice requiring an enormous multi-million-pound budget to operate each year, volunteering our time was a small but valuable way for Cheffins to support the organisation. It was a rewarding way to spend a day, make a very real difference and support the vital work of Arthur Rank Hospice Care.”
Cheffins allows staff regular volunteering days and has a focus on supporting local charities. Last year, the firm raised over £270,000 for charity as part of its 200-year anniversary celebrations, the majority of which will go towards the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital to provide a playroom for those in treatment. Cheffins is also a main supporter of the Cambridge Community Foundation and has recently been announced as the Lead Trail Partner for next year’s Cambridge Panda Meander tour, in support of the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.
