On 13th September, a team of 11 volunteers from across Cheffins’ regional offices joined the 19th Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival at Fen Ditton. Competing against 42 teams in front of hundreds of spectators, Cheffins secured an impressive 11th place finish while raising £1,010 for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT). This amount will be match-funded by the firm, doubling the impact of the donation.
The fundraising is part of Cheffins’ ongoing 200th anniversary pledge to raise £200,000 for charity. The majority of the funds will go towards creating a new playroom at the Cambridge Children’s Hospital, currently under construction. This initiative forms part of the firm’s commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of future generations across the region.
Representing Cheffins on the day were: Ian Kitson, Harry Chennells, Sam Harding, Ben Thompson, Steve Banham, Richard Freshwater, Will Freshwater, Leila Russell, Olivia Irvine, Lucy Osman and Holly Billingham.
Steven Banham, Senior Negotiator at Cheffins Cambridge office, said:
“We had a great day, competing in three heat races and qualifying for the semi-finals in 11th place out of 42 teams with a combined time of 128.58s. Unfortunately, the semi-final didn’t go quite to plan as we only just managed to avoid capsizing the boat, meaning that this was our slowest time of the four races at 71.08s and therefore the end of our journey. Despite a couple of showers the weather held up, and we had a fantastic time racing alongside other local teams. We’re proud to have raised a significant sum for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and to support the vital work they do. As a firm, we are committed to giving back to the community, and funding the new playroom at Cambridge Children’s Hospital is an important part of that. Taking part in events like this brings us closer to reaching our ambitious £200,000 fundraising target.”
