1913 Fowler Class A7 7nhp Double Crank Compound Road Locomotive, ‘Jo’

Engine No. 13141
Registration No. HO 5677
Four shaft. Three speed gearing. Front and rear springs.
Weight Approx 15 tons.
This engine was one of a batch of nine A7 road locomotives built in 1913 for general haulage work. Supplied new to Mr Thorp of Basingstoke. On his death in 1942 it was sold to Thurlows of Stowmarket and used by the Hampshire War Agricultural Executive Committee during the war, before being sold to Cuthberts of Grenocide, Sheffield for threshing. At their disposal auction in 1984, the engine along with a similar Fowler Road Loco was sold to Ted Freeman of Banbury, for preservation and then purchased in 1986 by Michael Davies who continued the restoration work. This included new belly tanks, work on the differential, 3rd speed gears, new main bearings etc. There is a record of the work carried out. The engine presents well in its authentic Fowler livery and has proved itself as a reliable and enjoyable engine on the road.
This fine genuine road loco has a current boiler certificate, and the next hydraulic test is due in 2027.
