Description

Come Unto Me Ye Wearysigned 'W W Collins' (lower left)watercolour heightened with bodycolour on paper laid down to canvas, in its original frame76.5 x 63.5cmExhibited:London, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, year untraced, no. 1 The subject of the present work is based on the eponymous hymn written by William Chatterton Dix in 1867, which itself derives from a passage in Matthew 11:28 - “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”.The watercolour has been executed on paper that has been wrapped around and attached to a canvas frame. Generally, the paint layers appear stable, and the item is in a good condition commensurate with age. There is surface dirt and discolouration throughout. There are minor undulations to the paper located in the top corners and slight warping in the bottom right corner. Some minor scuffs that have resulted in loss to the surface of the paper are visible on close inspection - mostly located around the edges where the paper has touched its frame. There are no signs of major repair or damage, such as damp, mould, or tears. Framed 102 x 89.5cm
