Description

A set of six Regency simulated rosewood parcel-gilt and painted open armchairs,

in the manner of John Gee
each with bowed tablet top rail, individually painted with scenes of figures in a rural idyll, above a horizontal bar and ball splat, slightly outcurved arms and caned seat, the apron decorated with stylised central star and rounded between Greek key ornament on klismos style legs headed by alcoves containing carved figures of classical maidens, on paw feet, five with a maker's mark 'P.W.'

Some wear to arms and lion paw feet of all with losses of gesso and gilt, loss of side section to one foot, caning broken to two seats, some historic worming to underside of frames, splitting along caning holes of one seat
