Description

A framed royalty photograph with King's College, Cambridge connection, showing King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and the King and Queen, with Princess Margaret, are shown leaving King's College Chapel in 1951 following a service of thanksgiving for the preservation of the College's treasures from wartime destruction, and celebrating the quincentenary of the College's foundation (delayed from 1941); together with Cambridge football history: a framed panoramic photograph of a football (soccer) match in progress, captioned 'Cambridge Town football ground' and photographer's initials 'JD' or 'DJ'



In the photograph with his signature in the bottom margin are the provost of King's College, Sir John T. Sheppard, the openly gay renowned classical scholar, classics tutor to the poet Rupert Brooke, member of the Cambridge Apostles and member of British Intelligence during the Second World War; and (talking to the King) George 'Dadie' Rylands, the King's College classical scholar, noted theatre director and friend of Virginia Woolf and other members of the Bloomsbury Group

Cambridge football interest -
The ground is at Milton Road, Cambridge and the view dates from 1922 (when Cambridge Town Football Club moved there) to 1951, when the club changed its name to Cambridge City.
