Footnote: Provenance: Julians Park, Hertfordshire The wife of Jean Matisse and daughter-in-law of Henri Matisse, Louise Matisse (nee Milhau) was a ceramic artist based in Paris in the early 20th century. Despite having been commissioned by Hermes to create a series of anthropomorphic earthenware tobacco jars in the 1920s, very few works by Milhau have been offered at auction and, consequently, examples of her work are scarce.
