Description

Seeds of Surprise acrylic negative painting, on Ampersand Clayboard 33 x 36cm, framed Footnote: Over the past 20 years I’ve learned that the way to exploit the real beauty of acrylics is through the interplay of transparency, texture, layers and opaques. I prefer to paint in the negative, ie carving around the shapes of my subject rather than painting the individual items. This leaves the beautiful transparent initial colours unsullied. Some of my paintings have 20+ layers but are still fresh and “clean”. So, in essence, I paint the spaces between the objects, rather than the objects themselves. Principally a colourist, I love to create luminosity, atmosphere and movement, whilst at the same time exploring how to portray the interwoven patterns of tangled woodlands, hedgerows and streams of my local area in paint! - Jane Cochrane - www.janesartworks.co.uk
