About this lot

Description

The Seamstress oil on panel 53.5 x 41cm

Footnote: Provenance: The Alan Jacobs Gallery, London, from whom acquired by the late husband of the present owner in the 1970s

Condition report: Oil on wooden panel formed from two boards is vertical alignment. The panel is in plane but the join has clearly split in the past and been repaired. The paint layers are thinly applied with delicate touches of impasto around the lace. There is wear following the vertical wood grain, as would be expected of a painting of this period. There appears to be extensive overpaint in the background and small touches in other areas. The varnish is slightly yellowed but generally even and glossy. The tortoise shell veneers on the frame is dry and come loose in many areas.
