Description

An 18th century French silver two handled wine bowl, maker's mark K.G, Paris 1750, of circular form with applied vine and tendril decoration and two stylised scroll handles, raised on a decorated pedestal foot, the centre inset with a Louis XV 'jeton' token and engraved to the rim 'J.B. D'ARNOUVILLE 1751' 9.6ozt 11 x 13 x 13cm (4 x 5 x 5in)
Other Notes: The inscription may refer to Jean-Baptiste de Machault of Arnouville, Count of Arnouville, Lord of Garge and Gonesse (1701 - 1794) He was Controller General of the finances of the Court of Louis XV, then became Secretary of State for the Navy and keeper of the seals of France. During the French Revolution he was arrested and imprisoned and died shortly afterwards. The inscription may refer to the item commemorating his 50th birthday.
