A George III silver lidded tankard with later decoration, by John Payne, London 1763, of baluster form, heavily decorated with repoussé foliate garlands and scrolls around a presentation engraved cartouche, the fully marked domed and hinged cover to match with simple scroll thumbpiece, gilded interior, the scroll handle struck with maker's mark only, with vacant heartshaped terminal and raised on a simple engraved pedestal foot, 25.4ozt 20cm (8in)
