Provenance: Collection of the late Samuel Alper, OBE (1924-2002), who acquired the work at some point during the 1970's Other Notes: The friendship between Sam Alper and Kyffin Williams began after the artist and sculptor, Elizabeth Frink, introduced Williams to the Curwen Press in its new premises at Chilford Hall, Cambridgeshire. Alper had rescued the Press in 1989 after he learnt that the studio's Tottenham Court Road lease was about to expire. Williams wanted to make limited edition lithographic prints of his work in order to make it available to the public. He also wanted to find the funds for the construction of a space representing his work at The Oriel Ynys Mon Gallery on the Isle of Anglesey.
