A most exciting and successful sale. With a packed saleroom ensuring lively bidding, there was interest from around the world, both on the phones and the internet. High prices were achieved throughout.
A total of approximately £121,000 was made for the whole collection. Some of the highlights included Barrett's painted stool used by Syd whilst painting with its abstract almost Pollock manner seat which sold for £4,400. Lot 738 was also sure to attract attention, the homemade bread bin, made from plywood fetched £1,400, whilst the Christmas tree made £800.
Interest in Syd’s paintings was immense with intense bidding for the ‘Still Life with Lemons’, possibly one of the last of Syd’s signed paintings to exist which finally made £9,500. The ‘Still Life of dried flowers’, from Syd’s days at Camberwell made £8,500. The sale ended with Syd’s bikes which did not fail to excite, the earlier blue bike selling for £5,000 and the later red painted bike finally fetching £5,500.
