Steam Tender

Two important steam engines are being offered for sale by tender on behalf of the executors of the late Cyril ‘John’ Lee who died on 26th June 2010. John Lee was an avid collector of steam engines, tractors and rural artefacts and he opened the ‘World of Country Life’ to accomodate his growing collection developing it into one of Devon’s prime tourist attractions.

In order to continue to develop the museum and add to it’s growing popularity, several engines are being sold including ‘His Majesty’ the 1907 Burrell Showmans Road Locomotive which recently sold at auction for £550,000, a record price for a steam engine at auction.

The 1904 John Fowler light Showmans Road Locomotive no 9971 was converted to a Showmans engine by James Coneley of Fordingbridge and was last used by showland owner Fred H White also in Hampshire. It offers a wonderful opportunity to acquire a light Showmans Road Locomotive.

The 1908 Clayton and Shuttleworth traction engine is originally an East Anglian engine having been in the ownership of Cambridgeshire and Suffolk Farmers. Restored in 1994 she is in fine condition.

Both engines are available to be viewed at Lympstone, Devon on 30th September 2011.

Also being offered for sale by tender on behalf of another vendor is a fine 1900 Orton and Spooner Showmans Road – Rail Wagon, which has been finished to a very high standard and with period fittings. The viewing date is 20th October.

Tender documents are available on-line or telephone the auctioneers on 01223 213777.
