SIZZLING SEPTEMBER – Issue 1

As the temperature rises in September so does the price of quality second hand machinery at Cheffins on-site sales. With a bumper run of farm machinery, vintage and plant auctions in the calendar we can now report on two cracking on-site sales this month.

Wedd/Sievewright – Friday 9th September, Longstanton
Two local farmers pooled their kit together to create an excellent selection of low houred tractors, combine harvester and machinery. Highlights from this sale include the 2002 Massey Ferguson 7278 Cerea at £47,200, 2005 Massey Ferguson 6485 (562 hours) at £38,000, 2008 Massey Ferguson 5445 (381 hours) hit £27,500, a 1999 Massey Ferguson 6280 topped £13,600, 1994 Massey Ferguson 3085 made an impressive £12,200, the the ever popular 1994 Case 5150 sold well at £10,400. A sharp 1980 Massey Ferguson 590 finished things off mading a superb £6,000!

Implement trade was excellent as well with a 1996 Kverneland LB85 5furrow plough at £6,000, McAvoy twin leg mole plough hit £4,000, Dowdeswell DH 5.5m discs sold well at £6,000 and a clean set of 1996 Simba Series 3B discs knocked down at £7,300. Trailer trade was good with a 2001 Griffiths GHS140 14tonne (as new) hitting £7,600, a 2007 Griffiths ACE8 8tonne sold at £5,450 and a 1997 Salop 14tonne smashed £6,200.

Rushbrooke Farms – Wednesday 14th September, Bury St Edmunds
The second on-site instalment was at Rushbrooke Farm, Bury St Edmunds where due to a change in farming policy there was an excellent selection of cultivation equipment low houred tractors and a cracking combine. Highlights include the 2009 Claas Lexion 550 at £124,000, 2010 Deutz Fahr M650 Agrotron (688 hours) at £55,500, 2008 Manitou MLT 735-120 (1,706 hours) at £37,250 and a useful 2005 Case MXM155 hit £23,000.

Good straight genuine implements and machinery were selling well with a 2002 Rabe Super Raven 2300 6furrow selling at £7,400, 2007 Opico HE-VA Doublet 4m front press hit £5,400, Lemken Terra-Disc 4m sold well at £4,100 and a c.2004 KRM SR 4.0 combi drill knocked down at £6,000. Trailers made £6,500 for a 2004 Griffiths 14tonne, a 1985 Salop 10tonne hit £2,200 and 1989 Norton 9tonne took £2,500.

In conclusion two fantastic sales which were very well attended and some exceptional prices. Cheffins are conducting several other sales in September with an on-site sale for the Peter Fordham Collection on 17th September, modern farm machinery at Pinfold Farm, Peterborough on 20th September, plant and machinery for PJ Boreham & Son (in liquidation) at West Wratting, Cambridge on 22nd September .
