Sale of Antarctic Library of the late Raymond J Adie

Excellent results were achieved throughout the sale with all the lots of Raymond Adie's Antarctica Library selling very well, with nearly all lots exceeding their estimates.

There were many phone bidders from both near and afar, bidding was particularly keen from America.

Most lots were sold to specialists and collectors. Some of the highlights included lot 32 'A Voyage of Discovery and Research in the Southern and Antarctic Regions, by Captain Sir James Ross, which made £3,600. Lot 462 the leaflet advertising Lieutenant Shackleton’s lecture ‘Nearest the South Pole’ at the Theatre Royal in Bournemouth made £280, lot 461, Sir Ernest Shackleton's 'South the Story of Shackleton's Last Expedition 1914-1917 made £1,400.

Lot 474, Lieutenant G.F.A Mulock, National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904 made £2,000
