Rare Dutch Royal Paintings Discovered!
A very rare and stunning pair of paintings of William V of Orange (1748-1806) and his wife Frederika Sophia Wilhelmina, (1751-1820) by Benjamin Samuel Bolomey, (Swiss 1739-1819) are to be sold at Cheffins in Cambridge in the September 22nd/23rd Fine Art Sale.
Having spent at least the last 100 years in a Hertfordshire Country House, their appearance on the art market represents a very important moment in the history of the Dutch art world. Their arrival in England could possibly be dated back to 1795 when William V of Orange fled to the safety of England a few days before the Fall of Amsterdam. It is very possible that these portraits could have been brought back with the King at this stage and hence their provenance in England.
The auction catalogue can be viewed from Sunday 19th September and online from Monday 13th September.
