Parisian find to sell at Auction!
A stunning bronze, 54cm high, of the classic sculpture ‘Appeal to the Great Spirit’ by
Cyrus Dallin (1861-1944) is to be sold at Cheffins in the September Fine Art Sale, with an estimate of £20,000-30,000.
This bronze was bought in Paris almost 20 years ago by the present owner’s uncle for roughly £60! By family descent the bronze was given to the present owner who after some research discovered he had in fact been handed a wonderful piece of American art history.
The sculpture has attracted much attention over the years from being used as the logo of the Beach Boys vanity record label Brother Records to a small scale casting forming part of the White House’s permanent collection, displayed in the Oval Office by Bill Clinton. There are three full size casts of the sculpture in America, where the heritage of the Native Americans of New England are recalled through art such as Dallin’s Appeal to The Great Spirit.
