Manuden Magic
The Cheffins team were closer to home with a farm dispersal sale at Battles Farm, Maunden, Hertfordshire. The sale was due to the retirement of Robert Carmichael who is off to sunnier climates.
The sale kicked off at 10.30am with a good crowd of locals and regular attendees. The first lots were in the workshop with top prices going to a cast iron water pump at £240, 1997 Ingersol Rand compressor at £300, Yamaha Big Bear 350 hit £1,550 and the rear surprise an immaculate 1982 Ford 1200 compact tractor with trailer and gang mowers at £3,000!
With the building finished it was out onto the field with the machinery. Top prices went to a McConnel Shakaerator at £2,050, weaving heavy harrows at £2,250; an uncommon Krause 5200N direct drill hit £4,800. A very tidy Bomford B467 hedgecutter topped £3,000, a brace of 1990 Collins 10 tonne grain trailers £2,950 and £2,800 respectively.
Also on offer was a duo of sharp Fiats with a F130 making £9,100 and an F100 fetching £10,100, a useful Sanderson SB50TC forklift hit £2,600 and the star of the show as a very straight 1989 New Holland TF44 Combine Harvester which sold well and stayed local at £20,000.
The sale was very well supported by local farmers and some quality machinery was entered. The pick of it was a 1995 Case 5150 at £8,400, 1988 Bateman Hi Lo self propelled sprayer made £8,200 a 2003 Moores Uni Drill DPH600 was hotly contested and finished up at £13,500.There was similar interest for a 2006 Knight Laser trailed sprayer which hit £14,200. Good trade continued with a 2004 Lemken Vari-Opal 8 6-furrow plough, knocking down at £8,600, a useful 1994 Ken Wootton 14 tonne grain trailer at £6,000 and finally a tidy set of Simba Cambridge Rolls fetched £4,000.
In conclusion a very good sale with some quality machinery, great attendance and some top prices showing that there is still great demand for quality second hand farm machinery.
