JULY VINTAGE SALE PREVIEW

The first row will start with a super 1965 Cortina Mk1 GT, a 1958 Land Rover Fire Engine, 1962 Austin FGK flatbed lorry and a restored 1941 AEC Matador ex-RAF fuel tanker. There will also be a 1973 AEC six wheel tipper, c.1985 Bedford ex-MOD 4t cargo/personnel carrier and a delightful R Garrett & Sons trailed saw bench ripe for restoration.

The steam section boasts two very fine engines with an 1869 John Fowler/Wilder ploughing engine No. 1109/1, which can claim to be both the oldest and one of the youngest ploughing engines in existence. The second engine needs no introduction as it is the much coveted 1912 Aveling & Porter Class KND convertible traction engine owned by the late Fred Dibnah MBE. The engine made famous by the BBC documentary series ‘Made In Britain’ has been expertly restored by Fred and was last used to pull his coffin through Bolton to his funeral on 16th November 2004.

The steam theme will be further added to by a fine selection of literature from a private estate and some exquisite live steam models of Aveling & Porter engines consigned direct from the Aveling factory, principal amongst these is the 1.5ins scale ploughing engine Field Marshall Haig, currently in our Cambridge office this model attracts attention daily, truly stunning.

The tractor section kicks off with one of the most exciting veteran vintage tractors to come to the market in recent years, the very impressive 1917 Samson 6-12 ‘Sieve Grip’. The tractor was imported from America in February 1917 and sold through British agents FS Bennett Ltd of Oxford Street, London. Little is known of the early history of this tractor but it has been in the same family ownership since the 1960’s and presents a rare opportunity to acquire a true veteran vintage tractor with good UK provenance. Other tractors of note include a superbly restored 1920 International Titan 10/20, International Roadless 634, 1950 Newman AN4 and a brace of 4wd Fordsons in the form of a Super Major and Super Dexta. There is also a 1929 Hart Parr 18-36, 1975 Roadless Ploughmaster, 1960 Massey Ferguson 65 Mk1 High Clear, County 1124 Super Six and a full compliment of expertly restored Massey Fergusons and other classics. Since the deadline of the catalogue there has been a large amount of late entries details of which will be available on-line and on an addendum sheet.

The marquee will be offering a fine array of motorcycle and car literature with a consignment of original motorcycle racing images from the golden era of the 1950’s that is bound to cause some excitement. Nearly 50 motorcycles will go under the hammer, machines from the 1920’s through to the modern era are present and the eclectic mix will have a 1972 Triumph Hurricane X75 rubbing shoulders with a 1927 Royal Enfield 4.88hp. Matchless, Cotton, James, Norton, BSA, Triumph, Velocette are all represented along with BMW, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, something for all tastes and pockets.
