Herefordshire Hoard

The Cheffins team were in the hills of Herefordshire for the on-site disposal sale of the late Keith Hill. Keith had amassed a very impressive collection of vintage and classic tractors, vehicles, wagons carts and associated implements. Also on offer was the modern farm machinery used on the arable unit.

The bell rang out at 10.30 am sharp and the large crowd gathered round lot 1. Highlights of the first 100 lots of miscellanea included a Ferguson mounted potato spinner at £170, Fordson puh at £100, Jaguar doors and panels list £220 and a very presentable butter churn at £140. With all lots sold in the main yard it was out into the field. With the sale bathed in glorious September sunshine top money went to a static generator at £500, 10no wafer weights at £320, pair 600/65 R38 rear tractor wheels and tyres hit £900. Quality second hand farm machinery is still in high demand with a Lemken 6 furrow semi-mounted plough at £1,650. Opico VF630XHD folding rolls making top money at £6,900, Opico grass harrows at £2,000 and a 1993 Rolland conic 2065 muck spreader at £2,000.

Good trade continued with a Fraser 8 tonne trailer made £2,200 a 1992 Massey Ferguson 3070 Autotranic made £4,400. Good combine trade saw a 1984 International 1460 Axial Flow make £3,600 and a well used Claas Senator at £580.

With the modern machinery sold it was onto an impressive line up of horsedrawn wagons and carts. Highlights would be a horsedrawn muck spreader at £660, a 4 person sleigh at £580, a superb heavy wagon at £1,420, a Dorset style 4 wheel wagon hit £2,000 and a well restored 4 wheel flat bed wagon made £820.

Keith Hill had an electric mix of tractors in his collection and there was consequently something for everyone. Top money was bid for a very original Renault R30 at £6,000, £3,900 was paid for a restored John Deere 420C crawler (ex John Goodman collection), a CAT D4D hit £4,750 and an uncommon Fowler FD2 with an additional rotovator made £4,000. Prices remained high with superb John Deer AR at £4,000, International W4 made £3,000 a very shiny Fordson Power Major topped out at £2,800 and a well presented Fowler VF made £3,800. Nuffield trade was strong with a very original 10/60 made £2,950 and a 342 made £2,800.

Following the tractors was a stunning 1962 Foden 46/15 Two Stroke which made a deserved £8,000, a c.1950 Bedford OL flat bed truck in good restored condition made £2,700. As well as tractors, wagons and lorries, Keith collected Vintage and Classic Cars. Prices of note were a 1968 Jaguar Mk2 at £2,600, c.1954 Alvis T21/1 at £3,000, a 1952 AC 2 litre saloon made £3,800, a handsome 1967 Daimiler V8 250 hit £2,100 and a 1968 Bentley T1 6.2 litre made £2,000.

With the dust settled it was time to reflect on a very diverse sale. The sale was very well attended and had good local support with fantastic weather. Trade was good with some excellent prices achieved particularly with regard to the tractors and horsedrawn equipment.
