Harrogate Highs
Our collective sale of vintage and classic tractors, vehicles, implements and spares at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate on Saturday 22nd August was our best result ever!
With a superb entry of tractors and vehicles the bottom shed was bulging with one of the most diverse entries in recent years. First up was a brace of fire engines with the first a 1944 Austin K4 making £2,150 and a 1958 Leyland Firemaster hit £2,200. Next up was something a bit different a 1926 Thornycroft FB4 1tonne ligh commercial, which had developed a charming patina and proved to be a real crowd puller. It was hottly contested and knocked down for a respectable £8,200.
To kick off the tractor section was a very well restored 1971 David Brown 1200 4wd which made a deserved £12,000, following was an uncommon Turner ‘Yeoman of Engalnd’ fitted with a Gardner 4cylinder engine and achieved £6,500.
With the atmosphere building it was onto 3 lots of good vintage tractors and spares, which had been missing from our Harrogate Sale in recent years. All three lots sold well with a c.1919 International Titan 10-20 hitting £8,300 and the following lot a Titan 10-20 engine making £2,000 and going to the same home. Next up was a c.1918 International Junior 8-16 in need of some TLC but still made a strong £3,100.
Good trade continued with other highlights including a Fowler VF Crawler at £4,500, a well restored 1948 David Brown Cropmaster making £5,400 a 1975 Massey Ferguson 165 in restored condition made £6,000. Massey Fergusons where popular on the day with a fine 185 in restored condition hitting £8,000 a 20 with a loader at £5,000 and a well presented 135 at £4,200. Low houred original examples are still the order with a 1983 David Brown 1190 with only 2,400 hours on the clock and finished up at £5,000.
The top shed was again full with an excellent show of spares, implements and miscellanea. Highlights would be a stone fireplace at £720, Roadless weight tray at £290, a pair of Fordson E27N headlights shone at £400 and a Major pick-up hitch took £460. With the sale well supported by local vendors they were rewarded with some bidding over the water and an original Massey Ferguson steering wheel left jaws wide open (including the vendors) and made £410. Roadless spares were again sort after with a pair of 4wd front axles at £760 and a pair of front wheels and tyres at £450.
The implemants section saw some strong prices with an International 300 3f plough make £640, a Ransomes TS59R 4f hit £210 and a Massey Ferguson 3ton tipping trailer made £460, a Massey Ferguson 732 finger bar mower made £340, a pair of Massey Ferguson muck spreaders sold well at £420 and £740 a piece.
With the sale complete it showed some strong prices had been achieved from one of the largest entries and also one of the largest crowds, which may have been enhanced by a plug from Steve Wright on Radio 2!
