The top shed was bulging with nearly 800 lots of tractor spares, bygones, stationary engines and implements. Highlights on the day went to a pair of stone gates posts at £1,000 and this was then eclipsed by the same next lot for £1,100, a Perkins P4 engine made £360, the ever popular original Massey Ferguson steering wheel made £290 and a well shod pair of 14x34 Goodyear wheels and tyres topped £370. Bidding remained strong with a Fordson Super Major levelling box at £200, a late Fordson Super Major engine made £650, 10no. Massey Ferguson front weights sold for £250 and a genuine Ford 3000 power steering unit sold well at £280. Tyres, rims and tinwork continued to make top money with a pair of 11x28 rims at £270, a pair of 6.00x18 wheels and tyres hit £620, a straight Fordson Major front cowel sold well at £320 and a pair of 12x28 Goodyear wheels and tyres with Massey Ferguson rims topped £480.
There was possibly the best entry of stationary engines this sale had seen in recent years and was reflected with an IH Famous 5hp at £900, IH 6hp at £600, 1923 Amanco 1.75hp selling at £820, a well restored Petter 5hp ‘square top’ sold for £700 and next lot an ‘apple top’ topped £720. To complete the row a Tom Senior fractional horse power made £1,800, Stuart Turner miniature made £1,200 and two Bamford ‘tulip tops’ knocked down at £700 and £570 apiece. Implements sold well on the day with highlights being a superbly restored Massey Ferguson 46 plough making £1,380, a Ransomes TSR103 3f reversible took £520, a Ferguson 797 2f with VAT on it made a staggering £760, a Ferguson saw bench hit £340 and discs made £380.
There was an exceptional entry of vintage and classic tractors in the bottom shed and was led by an entry of 20 gleaming and straight examples from the TA & N White collection. When the bell rang out at 12noon sharp it was brimming with eager bidders and probably the largest crowd seen at this sale. Up first was a very fine c.1946 Showman’s living wagon selling on i-bidder for £4,000, a 1969 BSA B40 Trial motorcycle hit £1,400, c.1939 BMW R23 at £1,800 and an R35 topped £2,500. It was then the one they were all waiting for, the 1981 Massey Ferguson 1250 in superb original condition and with the phones red hot pre-sale we new we were in for a record breaker, we weren’t disappointed and it finally knocked down for a massive £21,500! Next up was a superbly restored Massey Ferguson 565 and sold well at £7,600, keeping the same colour a 165 in similar condition hit £5,600. Top prices kept coming with a Roadless E1A Major at £5,800, a IH BWD6 at £6,000, David Brown Cropmaster hit £5,100 and a very straight Massey Ferguson 188 with Multi-Power smashed £7,000, this completed a clean sweep for the TA&N Collection and some excellent prices and reflected their hard work and talent. Other highlights include a post sale of the Ferguson Brown A at £11,000, Roadless 118 sold at £7,000, County 1174 at £8,500. A splendid David Brown 770 hit £6,200, Massey Ferguson 35X topped £5,000, a sharp Fordson Super Dexta sold at £5,500 and a McCormick W9 knocked down at £5,300. Original examples were not to be outdone with a Ford 2000 at £4,900, White 2255 V8 at £5,800 and a Ford 8210 hit £5,430.
All these excellent prices culminated in our best ever Harrogate Vintage Sale and this sale keeps going from strength to strength each year. Saturday 20th August 2011 saw the 14th Harrogate Vintage Sale conducted at the Great Yorkshire Showground. The sale had received our largest ever entry and arguably some of the best quality seen at this popular sale.
