Halden Farms sale highlights

The Cheffin’s auction run continues with another on-site farm auction, this time at Crowtree Farm, Farcet for Halden Farms due to the cessation of root production.

With some encouraging potato prices and an excellent selection of boxes, grading equipment, implements and tractors there was everything to satisfy the ever increasing demand for quality second hand farm machinery. With the first few miscellaneous lots out the way it was onto the impressive line-up of 2008 1tonne potato boxes, which ranged in their 84 per lot from £3,800 to £3,400 with an average of £42 per box. There was also good demand for the 5”x9m Wrightrain irrigation pipes, sold in 10’s they ranged from £450 to £430 at an average price of £44 per pipe. Irrigation trade continued well with a pair of 1999 Bauer E2Plus 100/450 irrigation reels making £7,400 and £5,400 respectfully (the second was minus a rain gun and trolley), a Wrightrain 110/500 hit £6,200, a brace of 1995 Bauer TiH 90/420 irrigation reels knocked down at £7,000 and £5,100 (again the second irrigator was less a rain gun and trolley). Good trade continued with a pair of Briggs R50 72m trailed folding irrigation booms selling at £4,100 and £5,100 a piece and a 2002 Dalton irrigation pump topped £6,300.

There was an excellent line-up of grading equipment and implements and highlights included a 2008 Downs Proteus 7ft grader selling well at £31,000, 2001 Downs 7ft sizer took £4,000, 2008 Downs Boxer smashed £8,000 and a Herbert clod separator sold well at £2,200. A 1995 Kuhn Vari-Master 150 5furrow hit £4,900, 1997 Overum CX490H 4furrow plough sold £3,000, a 2002 Simba Horsch CO4 (less the ground radar) hit £6,300, a set of Cousins Sidewinder rolls knocked down at £3,800 and a well used 1989 Grimme Q Continental made a useful £2,800.

Trailer trade was (as usual at our sales) red hot with three 2002, 2001 and a 1998 Bailey 14tonne Root Special selling at £8,800, £7,500 and £6,800 respectfully. It was then on to the stars off the show with a fine selection of green machines with a 2005 John Deere 6920S heading to a West County farmer for £30,500, a 2005 John Deere 6820 drew bids all the way to £24,500, a 2006 John Deere 6620 attracted a lot of pre sale interest and sold well at £29,500, a super sharp 2010 John Deere 5090M hit £22,900 and an included 2009 Case JXU105 topped £20,000.

Another great result with some exceptional prices and another happy client. Coupled with another outstanding Cambridge Machinery Sale topping close to £4.5m it’s another busy week for Cheffins auction teams.
