Foden 5 Ton colonial steam waggon “Isabella”
Foden 5 Ton colonial steam waggon “Isabella” compound two speed
Built 1907
This superb example of a colonial waggon spent it’s entire working life in Chile.
Sold in 1907 to a farming consortium, the waggon spent much of its time hauling two trailers loaded with sheep and llama pelts to Oazy Harbour.
This two speed Foden is quite heavily built with a larger 6 ton type boiler, making it a very free steamer. It also stands taller than the standard 5 ton waggon, giving it an inpressive and handsome appearance.
Repatriated some ten years ago and owned by the current keeper for six years, the waggon has undergone a complete restoration to a very high standard, which has included a new front lube plate, tubes, smoke box as well as a total mechanical re build. Now fitted with new solid rubber tyres, the engine is described as being lovely on the road.
With a full boiler certificate and next hydraulic test due in 2017, this rare and early Foden should give years of pleasure.
Estimate £170,000 – 190,000
