Cheffins' new chairman plans more expansion
Bill King MRICS FAAV has been elected Chairman of Cheffins, and plans further expansion of the firm.
He succeeds Michael Hamilton who has stepped down after 12 years in the post, having led the firm through one of its biggest growth periods, including the redevelopment of the old cattle market site, merger with Catlings and opening new branches in the region. He continues as an active director of the firm and will concentrate on developing the firm’s Rural Professional services.
Forty-two year old Bill King has been with the firm for nearly 20 years and a partner for 11 years. A rural specialist and leading auctioneer, he has spearheaded the firm’s national expansion in agricultural machinery and historic vehicle sales. He was elected vice-Chairman of Cheffins last year.
He says: “Cheffins’ strength lies in its strong brand and its diversity – from the world’s largest monthly machinery auction to fine arts and all types of real estate. Despite the prevailing economic climate, Cheffins has continued to perform well in all its fields of expertise which leaves us in a strong position to fulfill our objectives as economic conditions improve.
“Currently, our residential sales and lettings and commercial teams are enjoying an increase in transactional levels across all offices, our fine arts department has seen a strong upsurge in business and our machinery and other types of auctions have taken advantage of a weaker pound with increasing exports to over 100 countries worldwide.
“With a distinctive brand based on 185 years of history in the region, and such broad diversity, we hold a strong market position against local as well as national competitors.”
The firm employs 120 people in six locations - Cambridge, Ely, Haverhill, Newmarket, Saffron Walden and Sutton.
