Cheffins Fine Art Book Sale Report
Our latest Book Sale saw strong results across a range of genres.
The large Antiquarian contingent made up from a selection of bindings, theology, literature and religion saw excellent results including a first edition, first issue of Thomas Hobbes’ Leviathan which made £6,800. Other hi-lights saw a copy of William Camden’s Britannia reach £2,000 and Edward Donovan’s The Naturalist’s Repository in 5 volumes make £2,700. A good collection of Medical books were on offer and did not disappoint as The Anatomy of the Brain by Charles Bell made a healthy £700 and a collection of seven volumes on such subjects as Midwifery and Hysteria made a fantastic £1,000.
More modern volumes included an uncorrected proof copy of Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets which skipped up to £440 and a Golden Cockerel Press edition of Keat’s Endymion, illustrated by John Buckland Wright which made £650. Interesting oddities such as a complete run of Picture Post in 75 volumes made a staggering £750 and a small collection of Suffragette Movement ephemera reached £250. From the selection of photographs on offer, a late 19th century album of Algeria and Tunisia achieved a good £420.
Our next Book Sale will be held on Thursday 30th October.
