Cheffins' diversity helps clients

Building on their diversity, Cheffins has launched two new services to capitalise on current conditions – Insolvency and Probate. Philip Woolner, Director at Cheffins Commercial, says: “By bringing together such varied disciplines as commercial and residential property, auctioneering, fine arts, vintage vehicles and machinery valuations and sales, we are able to create value, make markets and do deals. Our two new services provide solicitors and accountants dealing with insolvent companies or handling a client’s will a one-stop shop for valuing and disposing all types of property and other assets.”

Recent activity includes selling a complete railway system in Wiltshire, valuing and disposing of the assets of a kitchen fitting and retail business, and acting for administrators and receivers on commercial properties in Haverhill, plus valuing assets of a medical diagnostics firm, and valuing and disposing of the assets of a commercial vehicle firm.

Typically, at their recent property auction Cheffins acted for solicitor executors to dispose of several properties including commercial as well as residential.

Philip Woolner explains that it’s the synergy that comes from such a diverse set of professional skills which is giving Cheffins’ additional business, particularly during the credit crunch.

A couple of other recent examples show how Cheffins is countering the credit crunch for clients. Their recent Vintage Vehicle sale near Ely had a crowd of 4,000 and achieved an astonishing £54,500 for a vintage tractor, among other lots. Their Fine Arts Department has had one of its best sales of late. And the firm’s latest monthly Machinery Sale was the best May sale in 40 years, attracting thousands of buyers from all over the world. Over the last six months, some 15,000 lots of vehicles, implements and tackle have been offered for sale and approximately 1,800 agricultural tractors have been sold.

Philip Woolner says: “It’s this vitality flowing from our diversity which gives us the edge in creating markets and doing deals.”
