ARCHIVE: The Fine Art Sale 9th & 10th June 2010

Cheffins June Fine Art sale will see the sale of some wonderful portrait drawings by Sir Peter Markham Scott which were originally published by Country Life in 1949. Sir Peter who attended Trinity College in Cambridge was most especially interested in painting wildlife but did do some portraits which included Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.

The portraits to be sold in Cheffins Summer Fine Art sale will include Princess Margaret and James Robertson Justice, the actor, all of which are finished on plasticowell film. These transparent plastic sheets, the invention of W.S. Cowell were born out of necessity, to make up for metal shortages after the Second World War, and were then seized upon by a generation of artists including Henry Moore and John Piper. The fine detail of these drawings adds to the romantic character of their charm, which will undoubtedly attract many admirers.

Viewing will be available in the saleroom from Saturday 5th June and online from 31st May.
