Stanley Lewis Drawings Come to Auction
Cheffins Auctioneers are delighted to be offering a rare opportunity to buy a drawing by the acclaimed artist Stanley Lewis, in the June 3rd & 4th Fine Art Sale. Two wonderful portraits, one of an African Girl and the other a female nude, both dated from circa 1930 show Lewis’s sensitive and distinctive style of drawing.
Stanley Lewis was born on 18th December 1905. His friend Augustus John believed that Stanley was one of the most important artists of his generation and was outraged when Lewis did not win the Prix de Rome. Now at the age of 103 he is constantly working in his studio, whilst also writing a new book on his life and work and preparing for a major exhibition of his paintings in London in 2010.
