No less than 8 steam engines will be offered for sale at Cheffins Summer Vintage Sale on Saturday 26th July. The list of engines covers 7 different makes including; Aveling & Porter, Burrell, Fowler, Mann, McLaren, Marshall (2) and Wallis & Steevens. The engines on offer consist of 2 rollers, 1 tractor, 3 traction engines, 1 wagon and last, but by no means least, a half size road loco.
The 2 Marshalls come from the estate of the late George Byerley from Northumberland. Both engines have been well restored and both are fitted with excellent rubber tyres. Both have been converted from rollers expertly by the late George Byerley and are super engines ideal for road use. A road engine in the form of a wagon is, of course, the little Mann steam wagon which has previously featured in one of Cheffins early vintage sales at Chilford Hall. The two rollers are inevitably the Aveling & Porter and a super Wallis & Steevens Advance which comes direct from the Bygones Collection at Holkham Hall. The Burrell is an agricultural traction engine which was previously part of the Parrett collection at Weeting.
The sale also features a Colonial ploughing engine in the form of a Ruston, Proctor ploughing engine and a partly dismantled Fowler D2 convertible roller, ideal for restoration.
And, of course, there is the half size which has recently been finished by Jeff Clarke of Staffs and is a wonderful engine, just requiring paint to finish it off.
Some excellent steam spares complete a very steam orientated Summer Vintage Sale.
An excellent selection of 120 tractors consist of mainly classic tractors although there is a very original International Titan 10-20 again from the Bygones Collection at Holkham Hall. In addition, a very well put together Doe 130 is to be offered for sale which was re-built from a Doe turntable purchased from a farm machinery auction sale at Chelmsford for just £6. Other highlights include a Marshall Model M, 2 super restorations in the form of a John Deere AO and Roadless 75 in amongst a Trantor, County Super Six, Fordson E27N P6, Massey Ferguson 20F (with just 877 hours) and many, many more.
Catalogues will be available by post at £12 each or via our website www.cheffins.co.uk two weeks prior to the sale.
