185th anniversary marked by £5,000 donation

A donation of £5,000 to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust marks the 185th anniversary of local surveyors and auctioneers Cheffins. A cheque was handed to Sandra Howarth, Regional Fundraising Manager for Cystic Fibrosis Trust in the East of England, at a special presentation ceremony at their Cambridge head office.

Bill King, Chairman of Cheffins said: “We chose the Trust because of the fantastic work it does as the only national charity dealing with all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis. It funds research to treat and cure, and our contribution will go towards ground breaking research by the Trust in three centres across the UK.”

Sandra Howarth said: “Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK’s most common life-threatening inherited diseases affecting internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system. There are over 8,500 people in the UK with Cystic Fibrosis, 496 of those live in the East of England and 82 live here in Cambridgeshire. Each week five babies are born with CF and three young people die – 90% from lung damage.”
