On Site Sale for Berden Priory Farms

Cheffins on site sale draws dealers from across the UK

The Cheffins on-site sale at Berden, near Bishops Stortford in East Hertfordshire saw crowds of buyers from all corners of the UK in spite of high-speed winds from Storm Doris on Thursday 23rd February.

Due to a change in farming policy, the sale was held on behalf of Frank Tinney, Berden Priory Farms and other local farmers and generated over £400,000 in total.

The top price of the day was £116,500 for a low-houred 2015 Claas Lexion 620 combine harvester. Following the combine, the three Massey Ferguson tractors on offer generated interest and the top price achieved for these was £55,000 for a 2015 MF 7620 with only 479 hours recorded. Similarly, a 2013 MF 7616 with 1300 hours made £47,000 and a 2011 MF 6490 with just under 2000 hours made £40,000. In terms of implements, there was a range on offer which were also in demand with the top price being for a Kuhn 4m power harrow drill combination which made £10,200.  Other strong prices were achieved including £9,000 for a Simba cultipress and £9,000 for a 2004 Kngiht 20m trail sprayer.

Bill King, Chairman, Cheffins comments: “We saw dealers attend the sale from every corner of the UK including Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Devon, as they sought to increase their stock with high-quality second-hand machinery in spite of the howling gales from Storm Doris. This really does go to show the importance of second-hand machinery for dealers across the UK in the current climate with the low pound and lack of new tractor registrations. The combine and all three Massey Ferguson tractors were sold to dealers, whilst farmers were the main buyers for the implements for sale. I-bidder was also incredibly busy with a flood of online bids for every lot, probably due to the weather conditions. Having an online bidding facility is now increasingly important for on-site sales, especially as our buyer-base becomes more and more international as the export market continues to dominate sales."

The next Cheffins second-hand machinery sale will be at the Cheffins Saleground in Sutton, Ely on the 6th March and the next on-site sale is on the 8th March at Little Downham in Ely.
